Not much, but at least something. This surprised Sony this week at CES for next-gen news that only presented the official logo of the PS5 in Las Vegas.
Lively discussions broke out on social media, which went in all directions. On the one hand, Sony is encouraged with their choice, but on the other hand, they are also accused of simple lack of ideas.
Sony now explains to the Japanese magazine Business Insider and why they chose this logo. It is all about the recognition value of a brand and PlayStation.
Sony Interactive President, Jim Ryan, said:
“It is important that PlayStation branded products are consistent. It is important that everyone can see them immediately and clearly recognize that it is a PlayStation. ”
Where is he right !? Only with the PS3 back then there was a greater deviation in the font chosen, which had been corrected over the course of the generation.
Hype about logo bigger than Xbox unveiling
The numbers on social media show that Sony knows how to inspire fans with just one logo. For example, on Instagram, the PS5 logo with over 5 million likes was called up more often within 48 hours than the unveiling of the Xbox Series X. At the same time, it set a record in the field of 'gaming' and in your own channel.
The Xbox Series X image only made around 1 million likes in December. Of course, this is also a bit related to the followers, where PlayStation is among the top 200 on Instagram. However, this shows very clearly the influence and presence of the PlayStation brand there.
