The Japanese company confirms that it is working with Internet providers to "preserve Internet access."
Sony has also taken action on the matter: it will reduce the download speed of PlayStation 4. The coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) has plunged society into a crisis that affects millions of citizens around the world. Governments have taken confinement measures that contemplate the quarantine of people, making Internet connections work at the top of their lungs. This has led companies like Netflix or YouTube to adjust the quality of its quality, like Sony, which has announced it through the official PlayStation blog.
"Playing video games allows gamers around the world to connect with friends and family, as well as enjoy much-needed entertainment during these uncertain times," the statement begins. "Sony Interactive Entertainment is working with Internet Service Providers in Europe to manage download traffic, with the goal of preserving community Internet access."
As they have explained, they consider it important to fulfill their role and contribute to the stability of the connections, given “the unprecedented number of people” that are using these services. "Players may experience slower downloads, but will continue to enjoy robust gameplay. We appreciate the support and understanding of our community, "says the company.

What happens to streaming services like Netflix?
Since the containment measures were activated, several companies in the sector confirmed that they would adjust their services. In the case of Netflix or YouTube, they opted to lower the image quality, so that the traffic was alleviated a little. The latter have activated this protocol for a period of one month, although there have been no changes in the price rate of payment services.
The coronavirus has affected the video game industry, which in many cases has had to alter developments to adapt them to telecommuting, necessary to safeguard the safety of its employees.
