Silverstone Will Host a Six‑Hour World Endurance Championship Race in 2027
Silverstone takes its place back on the World Endurance Championship (WEC) calendar for the first time since 2019, adding a six‑hour event on 25 April 2027 between Imola and Spa.
2027 WEC Calendar Highlights
The championship opens in Qatar on 27 March, followed by Imola and Spa, then the 95th Le Mans 24 Hours on 12–13 June. The European sprint sessions bookend a busy first half of the season.
After the European leg, the WEC continues to the Americas and Asia: Sao Paulo on 11 July, Austin in September, Fuji on 26 September, and finally Bahrain’s eight‑hour day‑to‑night race on 6 November.
With nine races spread across five continents, the 2027 schedule promises unprecedented global action.
2026 Sets a New Length Record
Last year’s eight‑round calendar was the longest in WEC history since 2017, with races in Qatar, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, Spain again, Japan, and Bahrain.
Silverstone was removed from the 2020s when the series moved to a six‑race format, only to be reinstated for the 2026 European Le Mans Series event on 14 September.
UK’s WEC Resurrection Explained
The decision follows the ACO’s announcement that Silverstone will rejoin the WEC circuit after a brief pause caused by the COVID‑19 pandemic. 2013–19 series editions saw the track host both WEC and ELMS events on the same weekend, a potential opportunity now being considered for 2027.
According to reports, the United Kingdom’s return is part of an expansion strategy that could eventually target ten rounds per year.
FIA WEC CEO Speaks on Expansion
Frederic Lequien said the growing popularity of the series among manufacturers, media, and fans makes now the right time to broaden the calendar. “Silverstone offers a tremendous challenge, huge crowds, and completes the eight existing venues nicely,” he added.
