Following the definitive waiver of a WWE 2K21, 2K announces the development of a more casual arcade game
2K has released the first teaser of what their WWE game proposal will be this year, once it has already been confirmed that there will not be a WWE 2K21 as such. Under the name of Battlegrounds and with a clearly arcade and light-hearted look, the project features cartoon-style characters and impossible situations such as keys that kill the fighter in the jaws of a crocodile, apparently in the few seconds of gameplay that have been shown .
The game will be signed by Saber Interactive, recently bought by the owners of THQ Nordic, who have a remarkable track record doing all kinds of work for other companies, with works as impressive as the conversion of The Witcher for Nintendo Switch, a great job that even They allowed themselves the luxury of improving with an ambitious patch. Saber is not unknown to 2K either, as they are responsible for the notable NBA Playground, the fun balncesto arcade games based on historical figures in the NBA and which are the best cover letter for this project.
Not much is known about the approach. In the promotional images we can confirm the presence of Austin "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena and Becky Linch. Playground 2, rated at 7.7 in Meristation, has a staff of over 200 players, so Battlegrounds is trusted to have a vast collection of historical characters.
A few days ago it was official, there will be no WWE 2K21 this year. For the first time in a long time, there won't be an annual official game based on the WWE show, and it's not so much for a "cancellation" but for a general change of plan. The first installment made exclusively by Visual Concepts without the participation of historical Yukes, WWE 2K20 was a resounding disaster, with a 43 of Metacritic, the worst average in the history of the study.
