Mirror's Edge art director: Catalyst, Jhony Ljungstedt, joins Retro Studios

Jhony Ljungstedt, who was behind the art direction of several of DICE's works, leaves the Swedish studio to sign for Retro Studios.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst’s art director and one of the main people in charge of the visual direction of Battlefield V, leaves DICE to start a new adventure at Retro Studios. Jhony Ljungstedt confirmed his progress through his Linkedin profile:

“Today was my last day at DICE, I leave with mixed feelings something that has been part of my life for so long. It has been a great trip and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with such talented people at DICE. I will miss you. Now I am ready for a new chapter in my life, looking forward to my new trip at Retro Studios. ”

Jhony's curriculum extends to most modern projects of the Swedish study of the last 12 years. He was part of the artistic direction of the restart of Medal of Honor in 2010, part of the downloadable content of Battlefield 3 (such as Back to Kanarkand or Close Quarters) and principal director of Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. In Battlefield V he shared a position with names such as Andrew Hamilton and Johannes Söderqvist.

DICE art director signs for Retro Studios

This signing in the visual area follows the trail of the incorporation of Kyle Hefley in 2019. For those unaware of his career, he spent nine years in 343 Industries as a senior character modeler. He was responsible for creating the model of the Master Chief in Halo 4 and the Spartan of the Osiris and Azul team in his sequel, Halo 5: Guardians.

The search for a new art director comes from afar. Last August, the company offered on social networks the announcement of the search for new human capital. Specifically, 12 vacancies were opened so that all those interested could apply for the position. With the arrival of Jhony, it seems that the quota has already been filled. Recall that Retro Studios is immersed in the development of Metroid Prime 4, of which we still do not know any new data.
