FIFA 20 – First headlining teams announced

Playfront

Electronic Arts has unveiled the first headliner teams of the new year that have made a special contribution to Ultimate Team mode. Two teams of players were put together who performed particularly well during the current season. The headliners event started on January 17, when the first team was unveiled, and a week later, EA SPORTS expanded the selection to include the second team.

The new special cards, which are very similar to the UCL and UEL cards, have a dynamic impact on the overall rating. If a player from the headlining team makes it into the team of the week, the individual values of the card continue to increase. Since the headliner cards are already well rated, the new cards have particularly great potential for improvement.

Popular game element

The cards are very popular with FIFA players because a single headliner card can significantly improve your FUT team. Similar to the Team of the Year, the chance of getting such a card is very slim. It takes a lot of luck to get a card like this without a lot of money. The cards can currently be drawn in a gold set (5,000 coins), in a premium gold set (7,000 coins) or from other special sets. Since the chance of drawing such a card is very low, many FIFA players are currently opening dozens of sets with the hope of drawing one of the players. The cards are also available on the transfer market and through weekly tasks and SBCs.

In contrast to the team of the week, the headlining team includes players who have consistently performed well throughout the first half of the season. In addition, there are no players in the headlining team whose overall rating in FIFA 20 is over 90. However, the new "headliner rating" can be well over 90. Headliner Team 1 is led by Neymar (94), Robert Lewandowski (93) and Mohammed Salah (93). Belgian Dries Mertens also breaks the 90s mark. In Headliners Team 2 only Dortmund's Marco Reus cracked the 90s rating. With the Danes Thomas Delaney and Timo Werner, two more Bundesliga professionals are included.

Microtransactions generate record income

The new cards will further increase FIFA 20 sales. It was announced some time ago that the income from the FIFA Ultimate Team mode increased by around 40 percent compared to the previous year. Most of this revenue comes from FIFA players who invest money in the different packs. Hoping for a player of the year or a headliner card, countless packs of coins opened with real money are opened. The various special cards give players a chance to improve their team, which has been built up over a long period, with good to very good players. This is the chance to bring bigger opponents all over the world to despair and to rise further in the worldwide ranking of the FUT mode.

Where players are happy about in-game successes, EA is pleased with the growing income in this business. In the latest quarterly report, you could report a sum of almost one billion US dollars through microtransactions alone – and that in just 3 months. In addition to FIFA, other brands such as NHL, Apex Legends or Madden ensure that this source of money will not dry up so quickly and that the games will be preserved in the future.
