Animal Crossing: New Horizons leaves doors open to DLC and microtransactions

Animal Crossing: New Horizons leaves doors open to DLC and microtransactions

The most important title of Nintendo Switch this first half of 2020 warns in the ESRB code of the emergence of in-game purchases.

Nintendo has updated the space dedicated to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on its official website with updated information from the ESRB (the US agency responsible for classifying the content of video games). As we see, the game is ready to receive integrated purchases in the future; that is, content such as DLC, expansions and microtransactions.

As has happened with video games such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, Fire Emblem: Three Houses or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, among many others from the Kyoto house, the expected new episode of Animal Crossing will feature additional downloads and purchases integrated. It should be said that these integrated purchases do not necessarily have to be paid; Free microtransactions (such as mobile delivery, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which have downloads of both types) are part of the “In-Game Purchases”.

In any case, Nintendo has not announced at this time any type of DLC, expansions or integrated payment purchases for the game. Its predecessor, Animal Crossing New Leaf for Nintendo 3DS (2013) had free content via SpotPass, such as items or clothing.

The wait is over: first major Animal Crossing in seven years

Regarding the problem of games saved in the cloud, something not available even for Nintendo Switch Online players, Nintendo is working on an alternative.

All in all, Animal Crossing: New Horizons hopes to go on sale this March 20; the first main game of the saga in seven years and the first in a domestic console in twelve years. The title will come to Nintendo Switch in the sweetest moment of the console, after a last quarter of 2019 marked by sales of more than 10.8 million units sold; which gives a total of more than 52 million units across the planet in less than three years. With these figures, Nintendo hopes that the return of Tom Nook, Cinnamon and company will be a success.

For those interested in buying the game in digital format, the pre-download of the game is already available in the eShop, whose weight has already been revealed, among other details such as compatibility with amiibo. Finally, it is also worth mentioning the new special Nintendo Switch based on the game, on sale on March 20.
