With the 92nd edition of the Oscar Awards already finished, we finally have the complete list of winners with all the winners, including actor Joaquin Phoenix, winning the Oscar for best actor by Joker after winning the Golden Globe and BAFTA for his role , among many other awards. But what other superhero movies have won Academy Awards throughout film history?

Joker: best actor and best soundtrack

Joker, the film that tells us the origins of the DC villain from a raw and realistic prism, has also won the award for best soundtrack. But throughout the history of the Oscars there have been many other examples of awards for superhero-based films, both from DC and Marvel.

Let's start with the first Oscar of the genre and it was for 1978 Superman, starring Christopher Reeve, achieving an honorary Oscar for visual effects. It wasn't until Tim Burton's Batman premiere in 1989 when another superhero movie was rewarded, this time, by art direction.

We jumped into Marvel with Spider-Man 2 from Sam Raimi in 2004, the second installment of the Sony Pictures trilogy that the Oscar received for its visual effects. Although one of the most celebrated and deserved statuettes went to The Dark Knight, second part of the Christopher Nolan trilogy about Batman, with the award for best supporting actor for Heath Ledger (posthumously) and the sound edition in 2009.

Already in 2017, and again returning to DC, the controversial Suicide Squad received a statuette for the best makeup and hairstyle. Finally, and as the most awarded superhero movie in history, we have Black Panther from Marvel Studios, a film that was made with up to three Academy Awards for the soundtrack, costume design and production design.

Special mention for The Incredibles of Pixar, a 2004 superhero animation film that was made with two Oscar awards, for best animated film and best sound editing. On the other hand, Spider-Man: a new universe achieved the Oscar for the best animated film of 2019.
