Sakura Wars release confirmed in April

SEGA today can confirm the release date of ‘Sakura Wars’ on PlayStation 4 for April. Sakura Wars, one of SEGA’s largest IPs in Japan, debuted on SEGA Saturn in 1996 and has developed into a successful franchise that includes sequels, spin-offs, anime, manga and even stage shows. Some of the best creative minds in the anime and JRPG industries have now teamed up with SEGA to bring Sakura Wars closer to a new generation and audience in the West.

For this restart, SEGA brought back many of the original creators and received important contributions in character design from greats like Tite Kubo, Yukiko Horiguchi, BUNBUN, Fumikane Shimada, Ken Sugimori, Noizi Ito, Shigenori Soejima and others for a really spectacular production.

The Imperial Combat Revue appears in this extravagant adventure as a Tokyo defense force against a demonic threat. Soldiers in times of war, but theater artists in times of peace, the Revue’s flower division does not live up to its legacy and threatens to be closed. As newly appointed captain Seijuro Kamiyama, it’s up to you to turn the team around.

During your adventure, interact with a colorful group of characters using the dynamic LIPS dialog system (a hallmark of the series). This flows into the high-energy combat system, in which huge steam-powered mechs called “Spiricle Armor” are used, which can only be controlled by those who have a strong spiritual power. All of this is presented in the style of an exciting anime production, complete with beautifully animated sequences and dramatic character arcs that make you wait for what happens next.
Sakura Wars offers Japanese voice-overs with subtitles in English, German, French and Spanish.

  • Seijuro Kamiyama VO: Yohei Azakami The former captain of an auxiliary ship in the Navy was assigned to the Imperial Combat Revue to oversee the Reformation of the Flower Division.
  • Sakura Amamiya VO: Ayane SakuraA young stage artist who joined the Flower Division to follow in the footsteps of her idol, former megastar Sakura Shinguji (star of the original trilogy). She firmly believes in defending Tokyo and raising the spirits of the population, and insists that the theater will eventually return to its former glory.
  • Hatsuho Shinonome VO: Maaya UchidaA nun whose beauty draws visitors to her family’s historic Shinonome Shrine. She was born in the working-class areas in central Tokyo and is a true child of the city, who loves her people, her festivals and everyone in the capital. Despite her cheeky appearance, she is a reliable companion.
  • Clarissa “Claris” Snowflake VO: Saori HayamiA sweet, intellectual girl from Luxembourg who always has the nose in a book. Her wild curiosity for the world drives her to read every day and learn about all kinds of topics.
  • Azami Mochizuki VO: Hibiku Yamamura As the descendant of the Mochizuki clan of Ninja, she showed an enormous talent for martial arts, combat tactics and weapon handling from an early age. Thanks to the rigorous training she has completed all her life, she undoubtedly believes in the 108 village rules passed down by her clan and tries to follow them at all times.
  • Anastasia Palma VO: Ayaka FukuharaStar of the European stage, who comes from Greece. She recently joined Tokyo Revue after spending time in various revues around the world. As a world-class singer and actress, she has the charisma and self-confidence to play everything, from the male lead to the enchanting seductress.

Sakura Wars will be released on April 28, 2020 and features Japanese voice-overs with subtitles in English, German, French and Spanish.
