Alberto Garzón studies regulating loot boxes in Spain

The Spanish Federation of Players of Random Rehabilitated promotes this measure before the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón.

The loot boxes will stop moving in moving terrain. The association FEJAR (Spanish Federation of Rehabilitated Players of Chance) has met with the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, to try to regulate the loot boxes. The intention of Spain being the next country to do so is firm, as confirmed by Enrique Gutiérrez Muélledes, president of the association, to Millenium Spain.

The minister has met with different associations related to FEJAR, who have explained the problems arising from this practice. According to these sources, Garzón has pledged to work in that direction, although he has not transcended the list of measures that are proposed to regulate the so-called loot boxes. The organization considers that the rotating stores present in some video games induce bad practices and consumer manipulation.

“The minister has been very receptive to the proposals presented by FEJAR, so the federation considers that the new Royal Decree will present news that has very good expectations and hopes that the conclusions, after the final approval of the regulations, will be very positive for the society ”, stresses FEJAR in a press release.

Since the beginning of his term, Minister Garzón has made clear his intention to combat these types of issues related to gambling. Not surprisingly, the advertising of bookmakers has been called into question, since "it attracts many people and can lead to create extreme problems such as gambling," he said in statements to The Sixth Night, which collects THE COUNTRY. The holder of the portfolio recalled that in specific cases, there are people who "bet on an impulsive way, lose up to 20,000 euros and ruin families."

Epic Games, against loot boxes

Tim Sweeney is the head of the company behind Fortnite. The manager and founder of Epic Games has reflected on the future of the industry and has concluded that the loot boxes should be stopped. In the talk, offered during his panel at DICE Summit, he has charged against this business model and has appealed to the sense of responsibility of the companies. “We have to ask ourselves, as an industry, what we want to be when we grow up. Do we want to become Las Vegas, with slot machines, or do we prefer to choose to respect the creators of the products that customers trust? ”

Epic Games, in the mouth of Sweeney, has anticipated his opinion and has expressed his conviction that over the years, the publishers will put aside this way of generating profit.
