Rainbow Six Siege is said to be a PS5 launch title

At the Six Invitational 2020 event, Ubisoft once again commented on 'Rainbow Six Siege' on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, which are also aiming for crossplay support.

According to Game Director Leroy Athanassof, Rainbow Six Siege is being tried to be released directly for the launch of the two new consoles, but that is not yet 100 percent certain. The team of hundreds of developers is encouraged to provide resources for the next-gen version so that the game can be released around Christmas.

"Why I can't give you a date is because this data is ultimately with the people who make the next generation of consoles," said Athanassof. “What I can tell you is that we will be on [the consoles] from the start. For Siege, our goal is to be available right from the start. ”

Cross-play support between the generations

It is also important in this step that you do not share the existing community and that enough people will switch immediately to continue playing with their friends. Therefore, crossplay support will be sought immediately, not only between PlayStation and Xbox, but also between this and the next generation.

“That means if you play on the next PlayStation, matchmaking works with the previous PlayStation.”

As for the crossplay with the Xbox, this is more due to Sony and Microsoft and not to Ubisoft. Here one hopes that it can be realized as soon as possible.

Ubisoft has summarized all further details for the next two years here.
