Persona 5 Royal – Homophobic scenes are changed in the western version

Playfront

At the release of the western version of ‘Persona 5 Royal’ Atlus will change some scenes that could be considered homophobic. The release of the original version caused some criticism on this point.

The publisher sees this as an opportunity to “get things right now,” as stated in a statement. It refers to a homosexual couple in the game who is hunted by the phantom thieves in different scenes using a comedic approach.

“We were actually able to go through some of the lines that players may not have received so well, look at this feedback and then [update] it for the current generation,” said Ari Advincula of Atlus. “The people who are working on the western localization of the game should be‘ very up to date on what is right and what to do ’, which is why these characters are no longer depicted in a“ negative light ”.”

Senior Project Manager Yu Namba added here:

“Our team members were a little awkward when they were working on it. And with Royal we were determined to see if we could do anything about it, at least in terms of location. In the end it was very difficult not only to consult the production department, but also to speak to our marketing and how they would feel if we changed the situation in Persona 5 in this new way. ”

There are currently impressions of Persona 5 Royal in the course of the current previews.
