Within the competitions will be:

  • CONMEBOL Liberators
  • CONMEBOL South American
  • And the Recopa

This will add approximately 500 new players, groups, qualifiers, a dashboard with real-time tournament information, a dedicated campaign, related objects and a career mode.

As for the interface design, the developers took advantage of all the assets provided by the federation to give it a standard close to the atmosphere that these competitions represent.

When playing for 3 hours we had the possibility to try different scenarios, both exhibition matches, group stage, semifinals and a final, managing to see that new animations and narrative elements are integrated to contextualize these CONMEBOL tournaments.

All equipment will appear in a separate section within the selection interface as an additional to the local leagues menu.

In an interview we had with Alex Constantinescu we tried to find out about the possibilities of some things that happen in these tournaments, since passion is lived differently. When asked about whether we would see the type of cheerleading celebrations (jumping on the fences, private songs etc.), the producer told us that his approach is to try to be authentic, keeping as much as possible the fair play line with the least amount of incidents that violate this sense. Exemplifying he reiterated that we would not see celebrations of players taking off their shirts, fans invading the field etc.

On whether there will be new animations, Alex answered for the moment no, since for the first year they dedicated themselves to building the bases, context and atmosphere of the CONMEBOL aggregate tournaments, although he did not rule out that they would try to make them more authentic in the future .

As for the scanning of the players, he added that 4 new teams with which they associated were completely scanned, 2 of them in Argentina the Racing and the Independent. The other two are the Catholic University of Chile and the Millionaires of Colombia.

Of the mechanics and movements, Constantinescu stressed that there is nothing new in this update, but that if they will have a special focus through their community team, to collect information about the players, trying to reflect how they are currently playing and about all ensure that these attributes are embodied in FIFA 20.

It should be noted that the designer told us that the attributes of the players will be updated as the liberating cup advances every week.

Regarding the more that was added to the stories, he told us that only a couple of lines were recorded such as the names of the competitions and their relevance to keep the comments fresh, since previously they only had generic names such as the LATAM Cup .

On the possibility of being able to relive meetings when the Mexican teams participated in the Copa Libertadores, such as the final of Cruz Azul vs Boca Juniors in 2001, Chivas vs. the International in 2010 or Tigres vs. River Plate in 2015 with everything and templates of that time Constantinescu said they could be done, but that it was more a matter of licenses that they would have to review, to see if they can represent them within FIFA 20, but in case it was, it would be easy to replicate them.

To clarify this, we took advantage of the forum to interview Fabian Girala, product manager of CONMEBOL and questioning him about the possibility, at least on his side, of replicating the finals where Mexican teams were involved, he told us that they could not rule out absolutely nothing, nor confirm it, but which are issues that speaking and seeing what are the benefits for the parties involved, I did see it possible as this partnership with EA Sports progressed.

Turning to the subject of the reasons why they preferred FIFA 20 over eFootbal PES 2020, Fabian stressed that all this had commercial and strategic foundations that played in favor of the EA franchise.

However, the issue of esports was not out, since Girala said that, with this association, what they will look for is that the same clubs use the channel they have generated with EA Sports to have a window to get on the project.

Finally, when asked about whether the game's branding will be the same as real life, the product manager reiterated that just that is the spirit of this alliance, emulate as much as possible the real life experience.

FIFA 20 is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
