The mayor of Boston asks Sony to go to PAX East

The Japanese company has canceled its presence in the event as a result of the sanitary alarm created by Wuham's coronavirus.

Marty Walsh, mayor of the city of Boston, has asked Sony to reconsider its stance of not attending the PAX East 2020 held in that city next week ..

The councilor has sent a letter to Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony, asking him to revoke his decision not to go so as not to encourage attitudes that "reinforce painful stereotypes" about the Asian population and that these do not translate into "confusion and lack of information ".

"These fears reinforce painful stereotypes that generations of Asian citizens have worked to dismantle. They unleash our worst impulses: seeing entire groups of people with suspicion, they close our minds to the opportunities and connections that the world can offer. Boston is joining efforts to clear these painful and wrong fears As an international company, you have the opportunity to set a good example; as a technology leader, you can show that you are motivated by the facts and not by fear and as a leader in gaming, you can teach that you believe in doing connections and not in isolation. " Walsh says in the letter.

No response from Sony

Sony has not responded to the words of the mayor and a few days ago justified his decision not to go for reasons of "security" to a "situation that is changing daily." The PAX East was an important event for the Japanese company since it was the release of the demo of The Last of Us 2.
