PS5 and Xbox Series X SSD memory "will make a difference" for open worlds

Torn Banner Studios, authors of Chilvary 2, believe that the change in storage memories will mark a before and after.

The next generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X, will be the first in history to include SSD storage memories, an approach to the hardware of high-end computers that will not only result in higher speed for loading video games, but also for the daily work of developers. Torn Banner Studios, adores of Chivalry 2, are "really excited" about it and consider it "definitely a step forward."

Although we still do not know how much the capacity of these memories will be (the current generation consoles came out with 500 GB HDD), the British media Digital Foundry said in a recent video that the minimum should be 1 TB SSD. However, one of the developers of this multiplayer hack and slash has commented on WCCFTech that, with the arrival of streaming and the consolidation of large worlds, improvements in the speed of reading and writing are also essential to develop video games.

"There are some games where it won't be too important, but if you have an open world or a streaming video game, this will really make a difference," says Steve Piggott, a designer member of the studio. Chilvary 2 will go on sale at the end of the year on PS5 and Xbox Series X; at the moment, they have not confirmed or denied a possible version of the title in these systems.

PS5 and Xbox Series X: no news about its price and exit games

If all goes well, both PS5 and the first confirmed model of the new range of Xbox consoles, Xbox Series X, will be launched at the end of 2020 worldwide. The price is something that is not yet confirmed by either company, although in the case of Sony there are difficulties in closing the figure due to the production costs of some components and the shortage of available units.

Sony will not attend the E3 2020 (neither the PAX East nor the GDC, these two fairs because of the coronavirus); but Microsoft will and promise an "extensive catalog of games" available at the fair, with many ads yet to be revealed.
