TEST: Patapon 2 Remastered – rhythm in the blood is beneficial

Playfront

Who doesn’t like to bathe in a melodic river or roll their body into an acoustic carpet of sound? As a rule, every person with hearing ability who exposes their ears to flattering songs! But music is more. Used in therapies, it heals some psychological conditions or in kindergarten an easy-to-play instrument brings the magic of sounds to the little ones and madness to the caregivers.

Also in the game world, like that of “Patapon 2”, dealing with sounds and vocals has become more and more established over the years. Karaoke has already produced some vocal artists (who is not happy when the neighbors and the police suddenly come to visit) and dancing luminaries discovered themselves within their almost trampled apartment.

The aged Patapon series from Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. is, for a change, a tapping or drum game. After purchasing the second part from PSP to PS4, will the buyer bleed after listening to the purchase or will he be rocked with ecstasy?

Feel the deity in you

Oh scary! Oh horror! The ship, with the Patapon tribe as its crew, is on a long journey towards the end of the earth. They defy every storm and rough seas and seasickness (can black creatures actually turn green on the face?). But before they reach their destination, they are attacked by an octopus and their watercraft suffers a dramatic shipwreck. The physical nature is gracious and washes the battered barge and a crew member called Hatapon to the next best beach. But which object is he clinging to? The sacred drum and the stringing are thankfully intact despite the misfortune.

Gottlob? A perfect keyword! Especially in this precarious moment, it will not only be time for the survivor to find his comrades, but also to worship his deity and hope for his mighty help. And now everyone can guess three times who graciously reacts to the supplication …

Missions, missions and missions again

As in school, “Patapon 2 Remastered” can end fatally if you raise your hand too hastily to report. Because the deity is the player in front of the console and the TV! Right from the start, the controller holder swears that he will serve the tribe named Patapons as a great leader.

It remains to be seen whether qualified or not. Therefore, it is advisable to choose the easiest level of difficulty first, to familiarize yourself with the gameplay in a simple manner and to impress your new disciples. Because from now on rhythm and timing is required for the adored.

In the tutorial, he learns to press his first melody, consisting of 4 tones, via the right keypad of the PS4 control unit and if everything is correct, the rascals move forward and the whole thing has to be repeated, etc. At this level, it doesn’t have to be so exact be, but dawdling and typing should be avoided.

Then you learn the order for the attack and change depending on the situation between the increasing number of short songs, a good memory is no harm. If everything is done correctly, the reward is the status combo, which turns into a fever that improves the values and efficiency of its fighters. Because it is not only a question of crossing routes, but also of destroying obstacles, game and opposing clans along with bosses in numerous missions.

Rewards are weapons, armor, and other useful goodies that can also be obtained by repeating the tasks. These help your own army, consisting of different sub-groups such as Fighters and defenders, to multiply and develop. Even better pieces of equipment increase the chances of winning the increasingly difficult duties in order to give the town of the retinue called Patapolis its due shine.

And if nothing works, there is a new, upgradeable hero in this remaster version. The only annoying thing is that it is also very popular with this species. So please do not make jealousy dramas, because there is really no time for that now!

Noise in 2D

A sharper picture quality in “Patapon 2 Remastered” by PS4 1080p and with the Pro up to 4K can of course be expected and this is of course fulfilled. But the game cannot deny its PSP roots, so no one should expect miracles and rather enjoy this almost 1: 1 salvation in the present time. Hold an African-inspired, colorful 2D landscape with black and white elements that remind you a little of paper-cutting handicrafts.

Chirping chirps can be annoying in the long run, but here and these cheerful musical accompaniments are almost pushed into the background by the constant rhythmic sounds of the Patapon residents and you would prefer to switch off the sound. But wait, then the divine doesn’t hear his acoustic commands over the drum either. Accursed!

And in the end, in order to put the well-deserved stamp, um drum, on the remaster, the debug mode of the time made it back into the game, which gives a little developer feeling. The experience can be individually adjusted here. That should be pretty welcome, especially for platinum hunters. Learn all skills immediately? Unlock all levels or face one or the other boss right away? Debug mode makes it possible!
