PlayStation controls: Sony patents a new wireless charging adapter

The Japanese giant has applied through the WIPO this possible novelty in the future of the Dualshock, although there is no explicit mention of PS5.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has applied the registration of a new patent related to the wireless charging of DualShock controls on PlayStation consoles. The Japanese giant, currently immersed in the preparation of the announcement of PS5 (which will have a new command with haptic technology), raises in the document a “wireless charging adapter with buttons for game control”.

PlayStation Dualshock charging without cables

Registration is official through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), but that does not mean that the future DualShock 5 of PS5 will be implemented; Simply register your right to legal exploitation for the future. Broadly speaking, this new device would allow, in case of materialization, recharge the control without wires.

The patent also indicates what this new applied technology would consist of, whose main source of power would be the inductive connection. The chassis of the device, a charging base, will be connected to electricity, so that the remote control and charging base are communicated wirelessly with a standard called Qi.

The practicality of the patent is clear, since it would be a peripheral that can be manually coupled and uncoupled by the player on the back of the DualShock control, as reflected in the images attached to the document. In this way, the use of cables would be omitted altogether.

We do not know if the device will be compatible with the DualShock 4 of the already veteran PlayStation 4; not surprisingly, it is a system with more than 108 million units sold, so its target audience is very large if it is interpreted as an intergenerational product.

Recently, Sony has put back action buttons on the main markets to add more commands; a request highly suggested by professional players.
