Baldur's Gate 3 details how its early access will be: characters, classes, races and more

As with Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios plans to launch the game in early access before publishing the final version.

The expected return of the BioWare saga will not be begged, but will arrive first in early access, as announced by Larian Studios, the team behind the third installment. Baldur's Gate 3 will receive an early access version throughout this year, which will allow to secure all the pieces of the puzzle facing the final version, which still has no date. The creators of Divinity: Original Sin2 have detailed the first features of early access. On the other hand, in FreeGameTips we have had the opportunity to test it in depth, so we encourage you to read our first impressions.

The early access version will include the first act and five characters, each with its own origins:

  • Wyll: Human Warlock
  • Shadowheart: Half-elf cleric
  • Lae'zel: Githyanki Fighter
  • Gale: Human Wizard
  • Astarion: Elf vampire, rogue

Although the predefined characters have their own origin story, the game will allow the protagonist to be created from scratch: these are the classes and archetypes available in early access:

  • Warrior: Battlemaster, Knight of Eldritch
  • Magician: Evocation, Abjuration
  • Rogue: Thief, Arcane Trickster
  • Explorer: Hunter, Beastmaster
  • Cleric: Life, Light, Cunning
  • Warlock: Demon, Very Good

As usual, we will see elves, dwarves, humans, mestizo versions of them, and also gityankis vampires and more. Each of them will have different characteristics, skills and weapons.

Speaking to PC Gamer, Swen Vincke, founder and creative director of Baldur's Gate 3, has said that if Divinity: Original Sin 2 had not come out early, "it would not have been so good." According to the developer, they wanted to give the new game a similar treatment. This will allow them to gather information about what works and what does not work, to file rough edges and improve the product for the final launch and beyond.

Baldur's Gate 3 tells a new story within the universe of the Forgotten Realms. The first two games of the saga, developed by BioWare, concluded the main story of the protagonist in the final expansion, Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. All of them were reissued by Beamdog on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. As for the new video game, it is announced for PC and Google Stadia.
