The indefinite suspension of the world's major leagues alters Electronic Arts' plans for this feature based on real players.
With almost almost all of the world's major leagues suspended due to coronavirus, and many other competitions, these are also affecting the regular development of sports video games that receive frequent updates. This week we have seen how NBA 2K20 is one of those affected, but obviously and how could it be otherwise, FIFA 20 is another, and it is that this week may have been the last one that we enjoyed the Team of the Week, at least updated way.
EA's plans, disrupted all season
As we know, the Team of the Week is based on the best performances by footballers around the world, something that with the competitions canceled indefinitely and the unknowns about when they can be resumed, if they do, it seems very complicated. Without going any further, this next week there will be no TOTW, and instead Electronic Arts will implement "player content", without specifying exactly what it is about.

We will not be releasing TOTW 27 due to the ongoing suspensions of football leagues around the world. However, it will be replaced with player content available in packs and via FUT Champions Player Picks from next week.

Probably at the beginning of this next week we will know more details, although one of the possibilities that have been raised for the future is a compilation "Best of", that is, with the best of the Teams of the Week so far this season . However, it is all speculation because the EA team is still working and gathering ideas to solve this unforeseen event.
Obviously, this will also affect the Team of the Season, usually one of the great promotions of the year for the FIFA franchise, specifically for Ultimate Team. However, the decision that is made regarding the real competitions remains to be known since this Team of the Season could arrive well ahead of schedule if they finally decide to suspend permanently. The simplest option also seems to be to reintroduce some of the letters from the various Teams of the Week.
For now, the Team of the Week is one of the most anticipated functions every seven days by FIFA fans, taking many of the matches over the weekend to FIFA 20 in this case, although now the plans change.
