Inside Final Fantasy VII Remake delves into the story and characters in a new video

The documentary, in which some of the key figures in its development participate, premieres its second episode.

The JRPG genre has always relied on storyline to transport players to imaginary worlds full of fascinating characters. Final Fantasy VII Remake, the reimagined version of the classic, is based on a story and on protagonists very loved by the gaming community. Square Enix touches on these themes in the second episode of the documentary Inside Final Fantasy Remake, which sets its sights on the script (encapsulated within Midgar) and on the characters.

Although the main team will not be altered (no new members will be added to the game), the storyline expands and deepens the relationship between characters. Also, Midgar grows with new areas that were never seen in the original. Hand in hand with Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the remake and director of the original, as well as screenwriter Kazushige Nojima and Motomu Toriyama, scenario designer, the creators discuss various aspects of the game in a video of a duration of about 16 minutes.

The team's reflections

"The original game was released 23 years ago," recalls Kitase. "So I had forgotten a lot of details about the world and what happens to Cloud and the other characters in the world." It has been great for the producer to return to the Final Fantasy VII universe. “I was amazed at how short Midgar's story is compared to how he remembered it. If you are going to shoot in the original game ”this zone is completed in“ 7 or 8 hours ”.

For his part, Nojima explains that Midgar was built as a kind of metaphor that symbolizes inequalities among citizens. “It is a city of steel that Shinra created 30 years ago and which rises towards the sky. At the top is the platform, where the wealthiest people live, while at the bottom are the suburbs, where the poorest are. It is a representation of society and inequalities ”.

The screenwriter reveals that one of the challenges that he set himself is that the dialogues be deeper. "Because the characters now seem so realistic, much more than before, the dialogues need to be more detailed in scenes where there are emotions."

Final Fantasy VII Remake, in development for PlayStation 4, will be released on April 10. Despite doubts about a possible delay due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Square Enix confirmed that they would continue with their initial plan, although he warns that the physical copies may not arrive on time.
