After the launch of the complete pack on Nintendo Switch, Volition develops a revamped version for the other systems.
The Volition saga returns. Xbox One, PS4 and PC will receive a new version of the third installment of the saga. This is Saints Row The Third Remastered, an open-world video game that embraces action and humor to build an adventure full of violence, drugs, weapons and sex. Through a press release and a digital event to which FreeGameTips has had access, Deep Silver, publisher of the title, has confirmed that it will hit stores on May 22. The game is available on Nintendo Switch, but it does not have the visual news of the remastering.
This new version will be released alongside the three sets of expansion missions, which also includes the 30 DLC of the original version, which have also been remastered. The developers have emphasized that each of the weapons has been remodeled, as have the cars and the city, which has had a debugging of the textures. Sperasoft, in charge of preparing the adaptation, has not limited itself to improving all of the above, but has also modified the character modeling and the visual effects. It also has a new lighting engine.
Like the original, it is not only focused on the solitary player, since it has online cooperative play. That functionality remains intact. Personalization continues to be one of the highlights of the video game, since the options are very wide and allow you to modify the character to your liking.
Saints Row The Third Remastered, on the developers' lips
Two people involved with the project were present during the event. On the one hand, Nikolay Stoyanov, art director of Koch Media and one of the great drivers of this remastering. On the other, Frank Manquart, who plays the same role, although in Volition. The latter worked on the original title. What is the objective you were pursuing with remastering? Stoyanov responds: "We set ourselves a main objective," he says. "Saints Row 3 is a masterpiece, especially if we talk about the third installment, which is when the saga began to have its own voice from an artistic point of view." So they focused on developing a version that wasn't just limited to improving resolution, they wanted to go further. "At the same time, we had the additional challenge of maintaining the product's legacy, so I hope we have achieved success with that."
For Manquart, the changes at a graphic level make it “a richer experience”. According to the developer, that they have touched the visual part "elevates the world" to new heights. Thus, the city shows a good number of people on the streets, higher density, more surprising explosions and a generally more realistic city. In the presentation they also named the puddles on the ground, which curiously, are seen with a higher level of detail. Stoyanov says they added reflections and modified some aspects of the weather system, such as rain. "All experiences during flight or driving have been enhanced with smoother motion blur, which supports gameplay without being intrusive."
Years have passed since the publication of the original video game, which means that certain aspects could not be executed due to technological limitations. "We call our style 'realistic exaggeration,'" Manquart answers that question. According to the developer, the lines between reality and parody are reinforced thanks to the power of contemporary hardware. "When you have reality, I think the exaggerated part benefits equally."
The study underlines the enormous work that has been carried out when preparing the adaptation, since they have carried out a facelift for almost all the resources and remade many visual segments. The main characters now sport a fresh look, just like the NPCs that inhabit the world. "We wanted to modernize them and make them more unique than they are," says Stoyanov. It is the same with vehicles, which are more detailed in view, not to mention weapons.
In a question and answer session, one of the issues that came up was the performance of the game at the framerate level. In the videos that were shown, the rate was around 30 FPS, something the developers have confirmed – that's the goal. And why remaster the third chapter and not another of the saga? The study points to the popularity of Saints Row 3, but also hints at the technical limitations of the first two, forcing them to work on a full remake rather than a deep remastering.
