Project Zero's return depends on Nintendo, says its producer

The license is in the hands of the Japanese company, explains Keisuke Kikuchi.

Project Zero, known as Fatal Frame in the United States, has its future in the hands of Nintendo. This was explained by its producer, Keisuke Kikuchi, in an interview with Nintendo Everything. In it, he explains that Nintendo has never "abandoned the idea" of making a new installment, but that this depends on Nintendo. "I'm only in charge of development, it is a saga that Nintendo edits for us, so I can only hope," he explains in the interview in question.

Asked about the possibility of the arrival of a new delivery, it was quite clear: "As far as I can tell, I want to make another delivery, but that does not necessarily mean that it will happen." Nintendo became the co-owner of Project Zero in 2012. In fact, the latest installment appeared was Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water, a title that raised the flag of the most disturbing terror by playing on the user's instincts and using the capabilities of the two screens of Wii U.

From videogame to cinema

He was also asked about the possibility of seeing a remaster of installments 2 and 4, the last of which never left Japan, and admitted that he believed that there was "a certain distance between my personal feelings and ambitions and the viability of these projects". "Obviously there is a film in production in Hollywood and it will be released in western markets, and therefore personally I would like to convey to the audience not only the film, but also the games that may accompany it," he adds.

The Project Zero movie was first rumored in 2003, but didn't come back to the fore until late 2014. And it was finally late last year when details of it began to emerge. Christopher Gans confirmed that he was working on the film adaptation alongside a new Silent Hill movie.
