FIFA 20: Premier League footballers to participate in virtual tournament for coronavirus

Raheem Sterling and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be among the representatives of their respective clubs. The money raised will be used to mitigate the effects of COVID-19.

The coronavirus epidemic has paralyzed the world of sports. Both soccer leagues and international competitions have been forced to indefinitely delay or suspend their activity. However, games like FIFA 20 have served to offer virtual competitions, in which the players themselves have participated. The ePremier Invitational is the latest initiative, a championship that will bring together footballers and esports players, among other personalities. The winner of the tournament, which will take place between April 21 and 25, will donate the award to the National Health Service, with the aim of reinforcing the fight against COVID-19.

Footballers will include Raheem Strerling (Manchester City), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) or Moussa Sissoko (Tottenham Hotspur), while musician Tom Grennan will represent Manchester United. Each of these representatives will face an opponent in the first round. These matches have been decided on a random basis and will branch out as the teams win, until in the end there are only two left.

As on other occasions, the ePremier League Invitational can be followed through different platforms, such as Sky Sports' YouTube and Twitch channel, as well as Facebook, Twitter and the Premier League's official channel. The finals, on the other hand, will be broadcast through the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier in the United Kingdom; Americans will have a chance to watch it thanks to NBC Sports. The calendar is available on the Premier League website.

FIFA 20 has been the master of ceremonies for other similar tournaments. As part of the “Stay at home” initiative, promoted by Electronic Arts, international footballers participated in EA Sports FIFA 2020 Stay and Play, in which professionals such as Real Madrid player Vinicius JR or Atlético de Madrid player Joao Félix were present.
