Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, chat with Jim “Jimtern” Vesella

In a virtual round table the producer of the game gave us more details before his departure

Derived from the limitations for face-to-face presentations by Covid-19, Electronic Arts organized a round table with Jim “Jimtern” Vesella producer of Command & Conquer Remastered Collection. In this we were given more details about what will be this revamped version that will be available on PC through Steam and Origin.

As it was announced last March, it will be available on June 5 and will include

  • Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn
  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert and the expansions Covert Ops, Counterstrike and The aftermath.

In this presentation that was developed through Zoom, Jim commented that this new edition has the participation of part of the original team of Westwood Studios in Petroglyph, Lemon Sky Studios and Electronic Arts.

Part of this version was worked hand in hand with the community to ensure the commitment to preserve the most important elements for connoisseurs of the franchise. This participation ranges from box design, in-game items, interface redesign, and what's new.

The creative pillars

The developers took great care of the programming core to preserve the game mode and the essence of the visuals when scaling them in 4K, although they modernized some elements such as the interface to facilitate the construction of things, on the other hand, they used more vibrant colors to better differentiate teams and added the map editor.

All this was possible thanks to the fact that they built on the original code of the game, solving part of the bugs that it had in the hands of the community.

Part of the changes that we will see will be in the music, since we will be able to select between the soundtrack retouched by the original composer of the work, Frank Klepacki and the original track, the same case for the sound effects and voices, however, they included a section bonus on music.

The resolution of the videos was also increased and a behind the scenes of how these original cinematics of approximately 4 hours duration were recorded was added.

Perhaps one of the most controversial decisions will be the fact that the possibility of using cheats codes was not added.

Future plans

Although he did not reveal much about what is to come, when he asked “Jimtern” about the possibility of seeing Command & Conquer Remastered Collection on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, he replied that for now they only focused on computers.

Regarding the incursion of this version to esports, Vesella told us that the community will determine the direction of the game, so she did not rule it out.

Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will retail for $ 19.99 and pre-order will include all DLC and additional features.
