EVO 2020 is canceled by the coronavirus, there will be an online event

The organization of the world's most important fighting games competition puts health above all else, but it is already announcing a digital tournament.

The coronavirus crisis is going to prevent any major mass event from taking place around the world, and video game games are obviously not an exception. To the latest cancellations is added today that of the EVO 2020, the annual meeting that brings together the best fighting game players in Las Vegas, but that obviously will not finally take place. However, the organization is already looking for alternatives to hold an online event.

Despite everything, there will be competition

It has been the EVO organization itself from its official Twitter account who has given the sad but more than expected news, given the situation with the worldwide pandemic that is currently being experienced. They are already in the process of returning the money for the tickets, as well as the hotel reservations. Thus, while some de-escalation is already beginning in some American states, large events capable of gathering large numbers of people are not yet advisable, in order to prevent a new and important rebound.

But there are other options. "To keep the spirit of the EVO alive, we will hold an online event," they say in the same tweet, so that all fans of fighting games can at least enjoy the fighting and competition via streaming. "The health of the participants and the public is our priority, we hope that you are all well during all this time," they conclude.

Registrations for the online EVO will start from next week. Originally it was going to take place in the City of Sin, in the state of Nevada, on July 31 and August 2. Among the lineup of games in which there would be competition were great successes such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate or Dragon Ball FighterZ, surprising returns like that of Marvel vs Capcom 2 and great absences like those of Mortal Kombat 11.
