Halo 2: Anniversary has a date on Steam and Xbox Game Pass

The remastering of the Bungie classic is next to be released on PC as part of the Halo: The Masterchief Collection.

More than a decade after its original launch on the first Xbox, compatible players will have the chance to replay the Bungie classic again, now run by 343 Industries. Halo: The Master Chief Collection follows its tiered release roadmap and prepares for the arrival of Halo 2: Anniversary, a product to be released on PC's Steam and Xbox Game Pass on May 12, as announced by one of Redmond's official social media accounts.

This anniversary version was included in the Xbox One's The Master Chief Collection, which was released in 2014. In addition to the graphic changes and the remastered audio, the new version will go further and allow 4K resolution, ultrawide monitor compatibility and adjustable FOV , in other aspects. The production, by 343 Industries, was released in beta format long ago, in line with the strategy that the developer is deploying with other titles in the compilation.

And is that instead of launching all video games from day 1, Microsoft and 343 Industries have chosen to publish the games little by little. Thus, Halo Reach and Halo Evolved Combat: Anniversary came first, and now it's the turn of the second installment. Later the following titles will be published until reaching Halo 4, the last of the saga that came out on Xbox 360.

Halo Infinite still planned for 2020

The coronavirus epidemic does not appear to have delayed Microsoft's plans regarding the launch of its new flagship game, Halo Infinite. In a recent statement, North Americans have confirmed that their plans continue as planned and that their intention is that both Halo Infinite and Xbox Series X will be released later this year 2020.

Microsoft has also revealed that they will report each month on what's new in Xbox Series X in a series of special broadcasts.
