Nintendo Switch is "barely halfway" in its life cycle

Analysts explain why they expect a Nintendo Switch Pro in 2020

The company assures in its financial meeting that the machine has not yet crossed the equator of its life; we can wait for her three more years.

Nintendo Switch is currently beginning to cross the equator of its useful life in the market. The company, which presented this Thursday its latest financial report for the last quarter of the last fiscal year ended March 31 (Q4 FY2020), considers that the hybrid platform is "just in the middle" of its life cycle.

Gone is that month of March 2017, when the standard Nintendo Switch model hit stores around the world. Now, with more than 55.77 million units sold and a projection that places it comfortably above 100 million in the next triennium, analyst David Gibson, present at the investor session led by President and CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, has Quoted the words of the company, which does not foresee that the commercial performance of the system will falter for the next twelve months.

Soon to talk about a successor to Nintendo Switch

We can expect, however, at least three more full years of Nintendo Switch as the protagonist of the company in the market; that is, until exercise 2023-24. The president already said, last February, that Nintendo Switch "was approaching" half of his life.

Nintendo launched in September 2019 Nintendo Switch Lite, a portable only model of the Nintendo Switch for 219 euros (instead of 329 euros for the standard model).

Nintendo's forecast with the Nintendo Switch family of consoles is optimistic. If this year (2019-20) they have closed with 21 million units shipped – the highest number in recent decades, only reached at the peak of the Wii-NDS era -, for fiscal year 2020-21 they expect to distribute another 19 million units.

Some analyst groups predict, without confirmation from Nintendo, that these next three years we could see in stores a new model of the console with greater power; As it happened in 2019 with Nintendo Switch Lite, although in that case to offer a uniquely portable solution. However, these estimates are not confirmed by the Japanese firm.

For this, the system will rely on software, although Nintendo has not yet revealed some of the games that we will see on the platform in that period. In fact, for now we only have a record of a few first parties in the rest of 2020: Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in May, Bravely Default II and 51 Worldwide Games.
