Half-Life: Alyx Receives Official Mod Support

Valve's work adds a multitude of content creation facilities, so the adventure will continue to expand.

Maybe playing Half-Life: Alyx with keyboard and mouse breaks all the magic, since it is a product specially designed for virtual reality, as its developers have already said as active and passive. However, that does not mean that the community cannot design attractive content. With that end in mind, and continuing the company's tradition, Valve has implemented a number of tools that will make things easier for modders.

The update adds Steam Workshop and native support for Linux. These are the tools that users will have the opportunity to experiment with:

  • Hammer, the latest version of the Source 2 level editor.
  • Material Editor, the tool for creating tuning materials in Source 2.
  • ModelDoc, a tool to visualize, compile models with animations, collision and other gameplay features.
  • AnimGraph, Valve's tool for creating complex animations.
  • Particle Editor, to design new particle effects.
  • Subrect Editor, to create smart texture sheets, better known as hotspots.
  • Source Filmmaker, the tool for rendering movie scenes and animations.

Half-Life: Alyx

An important delivery

Half-Life: Alyx is a completely new installment that is inserted into the canon of the series, so it tells a relevant story within the veteran Valve saga. The work of the owners of Steam, which has dazzled the press and the public, has been designed in order to fill a gap that developers detected long ago. According to the company, today there was no great high-budget game that worked with this technology.

The video game is available, at least for now, exclusively for PC. Although Valve did not close the door entirely to a possible version for PlayStation VR, the company has not said anything about it again. Half-Life: Alyx works with all Steam VR compatible glasses.
