The World Ends with You stars in the July Anime Lite Lite poster

The beloved Nintendo DS video game, rematerized on Nintendo Switch, will be the headliner of the Japanese fair dedicated to anime.

The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation has unveiled the digital alternative to the previously canceled Anime Expo 2020 for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Like other public events affected by the pandemic, the Japanese organization has presented Anime Expo Lite, an online broadcast program that will be held on July 3 and 4 with news from the anime universe and, it seems, there may be surprises related to licenses of video games. The World Ends with You is chosen for your promotion.

From the Anime Expo Lite website they take advantage of the official illustration of the event starring the main characters of The World Ends with You — the Square Enix video game originally published in 2008 for the Nintendo DS, later on mobile devices and with remastering for Nintendo Switch in 2018 – to anticipate that their pets, Ai and Xeno, "have run into the gang of The World Ends with You in Shibuya."

The presence of the protagonist, Neku Sakuraba, in an event of this caliber has set off the alarms of diehard fans of this video game. However, there is no official information right now about an eventual sequel – despite indications of the extended episode of the Nintendo Switch edition – nor an anime adaptation of the play, which is another possibility. We are waiting to know why TWEWY will be present at Anime Expo.

Bushiroad, Crunchyroll, Pony Canyon, VIZ Media and other major chains will be on hand to offer the news they are preparing for their lineup of series and content this semester. In addition to round-table questions and answers, live content and talks by great industry leaders, there will be exceptional guests such as Yoshitaka Amano, a Japanese graphic illustrator known for his contributions to the Final Fantasy saga or series such as Vampire Hunter D, among many others. The event's detailed calendar will be presented shortly.
