We look back to choose the 10 outstanding games from the Xbox generations that we would like to see in the backward compatibility of Xbox Series X.
The backward compatibility of Xbox Series X has returned to the forefront of current affairs. The support of the division will be total for the new generation, improving the present and giving it a push beyond the service that we all know.
More than 600 games across the generations come together on Xbox One and more than 1000 will do so on Xbox Series X. For this reason, we have gathered ten names that still remain in the pipeline and that we would like to see once the generation begins. Ten games as disparate as they are unique.
Forza Motorsport 4
Perhaps one of the most important turning points in the Forza saga. With a third installment that paved the way, Forza Motorsport 4 was a true tribute to the engine in full swing of Xbox 360. More than 80 manufacturers gathered in a title that experienced the best moments of Xbox Live. The visage of the Ferrari 458 Italia still remains in the memory of lovers of the genre. It was the best driving title on the console.
Arx Fatalis
During this month of May has been the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Arkane Studios. The studio that Dishonored gave us and the new face of Prey, premiered in 2002 with a title that would lay the foundations for his future creations. Arx Fatalis followed the upward trend of the immersive sims of that time. The levels were unfolded before us so that we could take the path we wanted. Playing it is understanding Arkane's roots.
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded
The Reloaded edition is the remastering of the remake of the 1997 GoldenEye classic. Perhaps not as successful as the original version, but in the middle of 2020 Agent 007 is missing on our consoles. After Legends, the license has fallen into a hole from which any news is unknown. Among those that exist in 360, GoldenEye 007 offers a different approach to the genre regarding Blood Stone and Quantum of Solace.
Eternal Sonata
We are missing more JRPG on Xbox. Bandai Namco published in 2007 Eternal Sonata, another project of the Japanese factory that kept a great memory among those who lived with fervor at that time. In fact, in Europe it came two years earlier to Xbox 360 compared to the PS3 version (2009), which gave more value to the console at that time. With Motoi Sakuraba in the chords, Eternal Sonata is one of the great JRPGs of the past generation, although it is sometimes forgotten.
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
Whether it's Future Perfect or the second installment, TimeSplitters is missed. Another of the shooters from the beginning of the 21st century that remains in the memory drawer. This year marks 15 years since Future Perfect, and what better way than to celebrate it with its arrival in backward compatibility. The license has fallen into the hands of THQ Nordic and Koch Media, which already assured in 2019 that the process to return the saga to the current front line was “still green”.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
We had to bring a brushstroke of terror to the list. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth was Headfirst Productions' last work before its closure. The legendary Lovecraft license gave us a mix of survival horror with elements of action. Mechanics like hallucinations and dynamic shadows offered a point of variety to the adventure. It is not the best game set in the license, but it is worth it if you follow the Cthulhu legend.
Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy
Robert Ludlum's literature made the leap to the big screen with Matt Damon. His popularity grew to the point of receiving his transfer to the world of video games, and the person in charge of taking the step would be High Moon Studios, current support studio for the group Activision Blizzard. Mainly based on Bourne's Identity, the title mixed sequences from the film with the original music, halfway between the shooter and the classic action adventure. The choreography of the hand-to-hand combat stood out, intense and full of unique moments.
Project Gotham Racing 4
All for the kudos. The adrenaline of its urban circuits on board the classic four (and two) wheels is something that is missing today. Other titles like Driveclub were slightly close to Bizarre's proposal, but none caught the same as him. Project Gotham Racing 4 is part of that increasingly rare arcade side of driving. Where simplicity became a virtue. Connect, drive and leave our skin touching each wall.
Deus Ex: Invisible War
We are clear: it is not the best Deus Ex, nor the best version of the extinct Ion Storm. It did not sit well with the brand jumping directly into the arena of action. From the immersive sim of the original we went to a shooter where stealth prevailed over any other mechanic. The lack of amplitude of the scenes and the repetitiveness knocked him down in the criticism. Several decades later, it would be great to be able to relive the other part of the saga.
Max Payne 3
If you have come this far, you will agree with us that there is a game above all. Rockstar Games left its mark on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with a third person shooter that takes your breath away. The journey with the good of Max through Brazil is a real playable rock. Mythical levels like that of Panama are part of the moments of the past generation. Max Payne must return in some form or another. Unless the next step is to revitalize a game that oozes quality.
