Naughty Dog's work offers multiple options for all those who have some type of disability.

The time is about to come, Naughty Dog completes the launch of The Last of Us Part 2, its ambitious video game for PlayStation 4. The North American studio has made a great effort to adapt the gaming experience to all types of players. That means that they have had to implement accessibility options, which amount to more than 60, as confirmed by Emilia Schatz, designer of Naughty Dog, in an interview with The Verge.

“Accessibility for us is to remove barriers that prevent players from completing a game. It is not about simplifying it or making it easy. What do our users need to play the game like anyone else? ”Asks Schatz. The answer is to help people with disabilities through options that help them enjoy games.

Thus, options are implemented to modify the color and size of the subtitles, remapping the controls, sounds with which to find nearby objects, etc. On the other hand, the Dual Shock 4 touchpad can be used to zoom, not to mention the way in which it is possible to distinguish allies and enemies through colors (blue and red, respectively).

Naughty Dog's Matthew Gallant also explained that some of these features were already thought out from the beginning. “We had to plan for these characteristics at the beginning of production. It was absolutely crucial. We could not have done it if we had not done it this way ”, so they established it as a priority.

The Last of Us Part 2 will go on sale on June 19 on PlayStation 4. It is the end of the road for a production that has been in development for years and was originally planned for February. However, it was delayed twice, first because they needed more time and then because of the coronavirus.
