Epic Games Store: Free Games Help Sell Titles On Other Platforms

The company's CEO Tim Sweeney reveals that many of those titles improve sales on Steam and consoles.

Epic Games' digital store aggressively broke into the market by offering a more equitable revenue sharing and free video games for consumers. In an interview with GameSpot, the founder and CEO of the company, Tim Sweeney, revealed that sales of free titles tend to increase on other platforms after going through the Epic Games Store.

"Many developers who launch their free games in the store find that their sales on Steam and on consoles increase after going through Epic," he comments in the interview. This is so, he explains, because interest is rekindled, "so it's a positive thing that has brought hundreds of millions of new users to the Epic Games ecosystem." According to Sweeney, this is "something wonderful for the company."

Epic Games, heading to mobile devices

As we have published in FreeGameTips, the manager has confirmed in that same interview that they are working on a store application for Android. As for the iOS version, they have not decided to expand on that operating system at the moment, but Sweeney wishes that in the future it will also be compatible with Apple mobile devices.

Epic Games continues in a sweet stage. To the success of Fortnite is added the announcement of Unreal Engine 5, the new version of its graphics engine. It was recently unveiled through a technical demo running on a PlayStation 5. The technology will be compatible with this and the next generation, so Epic's battle royale will also be redesigned using that engine. All in all, when Fortnite debuts on PS5 and Xbox Series X, it will still employ Unreal Engine 4. The plan is to rearm it later.

If you have not already done with Borderlands: A very beautiful Collection in the Epic Games Store, you still have two days to get it without paying a single euro. This compilation, which includes Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 2 and all the DLC of those two products, is the latest free game.
