OtherSide continues to work on System Shock 3 despite Tencent's entry

The study does not specify what its role will be from now on, although the project has been left to the Chinese entertainment giant.

Things were not going quite right at OtherSide Entertainment, the studio that was meant to continue the System Shock saga with a third installment. Years after its official announcement, the last months had been characterized by absolute silence. However, the developer recently issued a statement announcing that the Chinese company Tencent would take over System Shock 3. Then it was not clear if the study would continue to be involved, something that will eventually be so.

Alyssa Marshall, community manager of OtherSide, has come out on the heels of rumors and has written on official forums that the studio continues to work on the video game, although she has not specified more details about it. "We are involved, but we cannot speak much more at the moment," he says. According to the first statement, Tencent will take charge of the sequels, while the remake of the first game will continue as planned, with Nightdive at the controls.

Rights do not belong to Tencent

Not surprisingly, the creators of the remake clarified the OtherSide statement and explained that it is not that Tencent has all the rights to the franchise, but that the license assigned to the studio has passed to the Chinese company. That doesn't mean ownership has changed hands, as it still belongs to Nightdive. Almost at the same time of all this news, GOG and Steam have received a playable demo of System Shock Remake, a title that will respect the legacy of the classic, although it will introduce new features to adapt to current times.

The news that Tencent could be behind the aftermath came to the fore as a result of reports pointing to serious problems on OtherSide, especially when it was detected that the Chinese giant had registered the web domains of the third and fourth installments.
