GTA Online and Red Dead Online stop two hours in honor of Black Lives Matter

Rockstar Games announces this measure and positions itself against racism and in favor of the movement that emerged after the murder of George Floyd.

Black Lives Matter. This is how Rockstar Games begins the Twitter message in which they have announced that they will stop GTA Online and Red Dead Online for two hours. The Take-Two Interactive-owned company had not yet positioned itself in the new case of police brutality in the United States, culminating in the murder of George Floyd, a member of the black community. Part of American society has risen up and called for justice and equality. Meanwhile, many video game companies have joined the cause.

“To honor George Floyd’s legacy, today, 4/20, from 2: 00-4: 00 pm ET [20:00-22:00 horas en horario peninsular] We will close access to our online games, Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online ”, they comment in the message. The company also encourages players to join them and to get involved by donating money to human rights organizations. “After the tribute, I hope you will join us and continue to honor the many victims of racial injustice in the United States,” they point out. They ask for help to families, black people who have a business, etc.

The voices of the industry

Since the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement, almost all the large companies in the sector have shown solidarity with the situation. Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox have publicly supported it, as have third party companies such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Riot Games, Niantic or Bungie, among many others.

Both Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V are successful video games that have managed to establish themselves in the market thanks to their single-player campaign, but also to their online aspect, which continues to be updated weekly with all kinds of news. Both titles are available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (through different digital stores)
