Metal Slug returns in 2020: SNK works on two new games for consoles and mobiles

SNK Corporation is already working on new iterations of the license; They have not confirmed platforms, but they are added to the Timi Studio project.

Se-Hwan Jeon, CEO of SNK Corporation, has confirmed that they are working on two new games in the Metal Slug saga with a release scheduled for this year 2020. As detailed in the Korean media Inven, one of them is planned for consoles (platforms have not transcended); the other, meanwhile, will launch on iOS and Android mobile devices.

If we add to this the already confirmed title that Timi Studio, team owned by the Chinese giant Tencent, develops in parallel, they give a total of three titles that we will play soon with this license.

The information doesn’t provide much detail about the new Metal Slug, but it does confirm that they are being developed in Japan. For those who see the light at the end of 2020, no great revolutions are expected: it will follow in the wake of the classics of the saga and will be a side-scrolling shooter in true run and gun style. Furthermore, they declare that the age range to which it is directed ranges from 30 to 40 years; that is, those who grew up with Metal Slug back in the 80s and 90s in Neo Geo.

Of the second, the one they will launch on mobile devices, the age range is lower; so they will adopt friendlier mechanics and take into account that the majority of the public did not play the original works at the time. In this case, they will target the age range of 10-20 years. The project is approximately 80% of the development, so it now faces the final stretch of it. It is to be expected that at New Game + Expo, the event planned for this June 23rd where SNK Corporation has confirmed its presence, the first official details of the proposed routes will be announced.

It should be noted that these two SNK projects have nothing to do with the already independently confirmed Tencent project, which is also planned for this year by borrowing the name of the license.
