Although the new console is launched and Sony clearly trusts the concept of generations, PlayStation 4 will continue to be on the market.
Sony will not neglect PlayStation 4 when PS5 hits stores. No, at least in the short term, because it has “much more life on PS4”. The settled user park, with more than 110.4 million units sold, will not be abandoned overnight. Matt MacLaurin, vice president of UX Design at PlayStation, has stated on LinkedIn that “we are still going to continue to invest heavily in PS4.”
When asked by fans, MacLaurin assumes that not everyone will be able or willing to make the leap to PS5 this Christmas, but will wait a while. “You’ll be fine” with a PlayStation 4, answers another. Not surprisingly, the company wants to give reasons to encourage a quick transition because they trust the concept of generations. They promise the “largest” catalog of launch games in PlayStation history; all of their exclusive internal studios for the new generation, without the presence of intergenerational works at the first parties.
They do not rule out a black PS5
MacLaurin himself has also commented on this social network that the interface and the dashboard, the main menu that we will see on PlayStation 5, will have little or nothing to do with the PS4 because they are going to redesign it. During the event we could not see it in action, only the game resume screen, so we have to wait. The other aspect that has come out of their words is that they do not rule out that in the future we will see special editions of the console, as has already happened in the past; even a black PS5, which has been sued by a certain consumer sector.
In any case, not launch: there will only be one color, white. This fifth generation of Sony will be backward compatible with the entire PS4 catalog (launching about 100 titles) and will continue to bet on AAA games, although they will not neglect independent betting.
PlayStation 5 will hit stores around the world this Christmas in two models whose only difference will be the presence or absence of a disc reader.
