A statue of Captain America on Twitter has offended some users after the events of the Black Lives Matter.
The murder of George Floyd by police officers has caused protests in the United States. Systemic racism against people in the black or African American community has sparked a feeling of rejection against a deeply rooted problem in American society. In that context, Square Enix has had to apologize for a promotional tweet from Marvel’s Avengers in which a statue of Captain America appeared.
In the original tweet, now deleted, you could see the aforementioned statue accompanied by these words: “In the past, the Heroes Park commemorated The Avengers, but now it is abandoned. Removing the droids that fly over the area, there are still people who believe and pay their respects to Captain America. ” And why have there been people who have reacted negatively to this publication? Parallelism with the demolition of statues
The truth is that the statues of the old patriotic heroes of the United States have been knocked down or removed because these historical figures had been linked to the slavery of black people in the past. This vision of the Captain America statue has hinted or in some way reminded us of this situation, which has upset part of the community. Given the negative reactions, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have preferred to withdraw the tweet.
