Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed again; new date announced

The new CD Projekt RED production will not arrive in September, as planned. The studio needs more time to polish the gaming experience.

What the coronavirus has failed to delay has been the need to improve the title. This has been announced by CD Projekt Red on social networks. Cyberpunk 2077 was scheduled for September 17, but it will finally miss the back-to-school season and launch just before fall gives way to winter on November 19.

“Those of you familiar with the way we make games know that we do not release games that are not ready,” they say in the statement. “‘Ready when it’s done’ is not a phrase we say just because it sounds good.” According to the Poles, they are aware that this type of decision erodes the trust placed by the players, so that “commercializing trust for development time is one of the hardest decisions that a developer can make”, they continue. In the message, they apologize, although they hope the players understand that it will be positive in the long run.

The task of fixing bugs

At the time of writing this message, Cyberpunk 2077 is already complete when it comes to content and gameplay design. All missions, items, and movie scenes are already in the game. However, the combination of all these contents implies great complexity when it comes to working perfectly. That includes the difficulty of finding and fixing bugs. “A big world demands a gigantic number of elements to improve: we are going to do exactly that with the additional time.”

CD Projekt Red concludes its statement by announcing that several journalists are already testing the game independently. The studio is looking forward to hearing the feedback and offering news at the event they have planned for June 25.

Cyberpunk 2077 is in development for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will also have a version for Google Stadia and for the next generation later.
