Star Wars: Squadrons will only feature first-person vision; AI in battles

Motive Studios confirms that Star Wars: Squadrons can only be played in the first person. Battles will be populated with AI-driven ships.

Star Wars: Squadrons can only be played in first person. Contrary to what was seen in the last two installments of the Battlefront saga, Motive Studios has chosen to design its game concept with only one perspective in mind.

This was expressed by its creative director, Ian Frazier, at the Gamespot microphone. “The entire game is designed for the first person since its inception. You are the pilot. All the information is on your interface, so you can simply hide it and depend solely on the instruments of the ship. We want that to be the key experience ”, he comments.

This creates a division in the community. Not all cabins are created equal. For example, being inside an X-wing allows you to have more perspective on combat than the circular window of a TIE Fighter. For Fraizer it is not so simple.

The interface will be the control panel of the ship.

The team had to turn to Lucasarts’ classic X-wing and TIE Fighter to document themselves, even at competitive forums, where players of yesteryear were debating this same issue. “The answer back in 1997 is that on an imperial ship you have to deal with fewer things. In some ways that is an advantage. It was surprising to find that in our game it is true. A TIE Fighter has no shields; not having them is a disadvantage, right? But that at the same time means that you should not manage them. It’s one less thing to be concerned about. What you lose on the one hand you gain in concentration ”.

On the other hand, Jay Ingram, Community Manager of Star Wars and BioWare at Electronic Arts, assured in a tweet that multiplayer battles will be filled with AI-controlled ships. This decision is not new; DICE has already done the same in Star Wars: Battlefront, which gives a feeling of scale in the modes that require fighting large fleets, for example.

Star Wars: Squadrons will arrive on October 2 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
