Sea of Stars, classic 16-bit RPG, shines in its new trailer and announces demo

The Sabotage Studio, responsible for The Messenger, return to the fray with a very different title inspired by the classics of the Japanese role of the nineties.

The Sabotage Studio has been one of the leading studios during the Summer Game Fest Developer Showcase on June 22, showing a new trailer for Sea of Stars, its new JRPG inspired by the great classics of the 16-bit era. The authors of The Messenger, an award-winning title in The Game Awards and considered one of the great independent games of this five-year period, have taken the opportunity to announce that the game will have a demo for backers “very soon”.

The new video, less than two minutes long, features the main playable mechanics, interface, and battle commands; a turn-based RPG system with elements typical of productions of yesteryear from Square Enix, including in setting and stage design, with a color palette that respects and breathes those works from now more than twenty years ago.

One of the characteristics of Sea of Stars is that everything will be very agile. During turn-based combat, we must use different skills, magic and strategies that will depend on our speed when pressing the controls, whose impact on the enemy will be greater if we do it at the right time. The studio hopes, however, that the gameplay will be accompanied by the sound, thus creating an organic mix with the rhythm and, consequently, dynamism. In this soundtrack will be Yasunori Mitsuda, composer of Chrono Trigger.

Kickstarter success; on consoles and PC in 2022

From FreeGameTips we have been able to interview Thierry Boulanger, president of The Sabotage Studio and creative director of this work that we are waiting for so long in the newsroom. From his words we extract that “Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG are two great inspirations for the game.”

After raising more than $ 1.6 million in the funding campaign through Kickstarter, Sea of Stars is still in development with the goal of seeing the light on PC and consoles sometime in 2022 and serving as a story prequel to The Messenger.
