Kojima denies the rumor about the reasons for his departure from Konami

The Japanese developer publishes on social networks that the article published on a French website is “flatly false.”

Only a few hours have lasted the speculations about the article that the French website Gameblog has published in the last hours. According to this post, the relationship between Hideo Kojima and Konami was irreparably damaged after various executives secretly learned that the Japanese creative had allocated part of the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain budget to a secret horror project, PT / Silent Hills. What happens is that all that story is not real. Kojima Productions has come out on the heels of rumors and has crossed out the content of the article of “completely false”.

“Kojima Productions does not normally comment on rumors or speculation, but we can confirm that the recently published article on Gameblog.fr is categorically false.” The official statement is signed by Jay Boor, head of marketing and communications for the company. Therefore, they consider the rumors, which almost five years later, continue to surround the controversial departure of Hideo Kojima from Konami.

Chronology of a goodbye

In 2015, a few months after Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain went on sale, Hideo Kojima’s signature disappeared from Konami’s website. That sparked numerous speculations about a possible departure of the creative. Later, both parties issued a statement confirming the dismissal of the Japanese designer. The causes have never been clear, although it is known that Hideo Kojima’s contract expired at the end of 2015. Without a renewal in between, the artist sought new horizons.

He found them at Kojima Productions, which he set up again as an independent studio. After reaching an agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment, the new company announced Death Stranding. The video game starring Normal Reedus in which Guillermo del Toro also participates went on sale in November 2019 for PlayStation 4. Now, the studio is preparing for new projects, although before that happens, they will commercialize Death Stranding on PC (14 of July).
