Agent 47 returns ready for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Discover everything we know so far about IO Interactive’s intergenerational gamble.
Hitman 3 is the conclusion of the Agent 47 reboot trilogy. After being linked to Square Enix for years, IO Interactive took an independent path that leads to this installment, its first great game published without external publisher ties. The World of Murder, as they call it, returns to premiere the new generation.
It was during the presentation of PlayStation 5 that his presence was made official. After two years from the second installment, we return to handle the piano strings in a different way, both for the platforms to choose, and for the model that will follow. Prepared for the new generation
PS5 and Xbox Series X will debut at the end of this 2020. The coronavirus crisis has not affected its launch, nor has it done in the plans of the Danes. Therefore, when Hitman 3 arrives in January 2021, it will not only do so on new machines, but also on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. No one is left behind.
Its proprietary engine, called Glacier, will be launched to squeeze out the possibilities that next-gen hardware allows. Although the specific use has not transpired, improvements such as Raytracing, the fast loading of the SSD and more are fundamental pieces of a puzzle that is expected to know more in the coming weeks.
Business model
For the first time since the restart, Hitman 3 will feature full locations from the start. No episodes or planned roadmaps – buy your copy and play your way. Six environments will be explored in it, a journey that will begin in the city of Dubai. Its skyscrapers will be the hallmark of the objective, which seems a nod to Mission Impossible.
During the trailer we were able to see several of the locations inside the building. Yes, we can get to the highest point of the roof. Despite not having transcended the details of what will give rise in narrative terms, it will be a direct sequel to the events narrated in its predecessor.
The studio wants to create the ultimate murder platform, the meeting point for all the action available under Hitman’s umbrella. As such, it was confirmed that all of your progress in Hitman 2 can be carried over to the sequel, including levels, items, costumes, and more. Not only that, but the locations of the first and second games can be incorporated into it.
This will give you access to more than 20 locations from the entire trilogy in one place. It will take advantage of the new mechanics that they introduce, such as the small changes that the first received at the arrival of Hitman 2, as well as the new repertoire of objects. The operation of the system when bringing your entire package to it is unknown, although they urge us to announce it soon.
Visible faces
In the first live development diary, IO Interactive confirmed the roster of actors who will play the main characters. Participating are Isaura Barbe-Brown (for Olivia Hall), John Hopkins (for Lucas Gray), David Bateson (for Agent 47), Jane Perry (for Diana Burnwood) and Philip Rosch (for The Constant).
There was a jump between the 2 video scenes compared to the original. In the second they decided to make the narrative pieces somewhat more austere, as if it were from an animated comic. The revelation piece was completely animated, so we do not know so far if it will follow the usual line or something less spectacular.
As we said at the beginning, Hitman 3 will be the first game published and developed by IO Interactive. As they narrated on their official website, they feel this decision as “the natural step” as it is the conclusion of the trip that they started in 2016. “We feel ready to embrace this challenge on this journey with our players and community,” they said.
This further step towards independence is forged as the opening of a second office, located in the city of Malmö, Sweden. It is just 40 minutes by train from the center of Copenhagen, making it very close to the headquarters. There we can also find Massive Entertainment, responsible for The Division.
A new path ahead
The six months remaining until its launch will serve to shore up its entire offering. It remains to detail its linked progression system, which places we will visit and what awaits the legendary Agent 47 in search of its origins.
