Ghost of Tsushima will compile its soundtrack in physical and digital format

The music, to be released on July 17, has been composed by two musicians and will hit stores on two discs.

Medieval Japan revolts in a war against the foreign invader. The katanas rattle; armors resonate with every sword movement. And in the background, a soundtrack that aims to capture all the historical drama that the player will experience first hand. Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced on the official PlayStation blog that the musical pieces of Ghost of Tsushima will be released on the same day of the videogame launch, that is, on July 17. It will do so in digital format, but also in physical format, as it will be released on two discs.

According to Bradley Meyer, the title’s audio director, when they started building the world of Ghost of Tsushima they temporarily took music from movies, television and other games to inspire them. There were two composers who really captured what they expected from the soundtrack, Ilan Eshkeri and Shigeru ‘Ume’ Umebayashi. Why two composers? Firstly, because it was a huge project. They wanted to have many pieces of music that would fill the world and support Jim’s evolution from his beginnings as a samurai to his conversion into a Ghost. Second, by having two musicians, they could offer a more varied soundtrack.

Composers’ vision

“Jim’s song, The Way of the Ghost, was one of the first pieces I wrote,” reveals Eshkeri. “Generally, productions are ready for music when everyone is working on the game. As much as you understand the story, you always need time to scratch the surface and appreciate the depth of a story and well-written characters. When some of my early sketches evolved, this theme really stuck. It’s about how Tsushima’s people see him. He is their hero: strong, infallible, inspiring. It is full of hope, but the really fascinating thing about Jin is the contrast with what is happening inside him. ” And it is that to save your home, you must go against all its teachings, abandon the code of the samurai.

Umebayashi has also shared his thoughts on the matter: “I was born in the city of Kita-Kyushu, which is physically close to the island of Tsushima. However, I have never personally traveled there. I wasn’t very familiar with Tsushima’s story before working on the game, “he explains. “When I was composing the music for this game, I was inspired by the nature of Japan, the climate and the traditions; also in traditional music. My pieces include various traditional instruments: shakuhachi, koto and taiko. “

Ghost of Tsushima will be released on July 17 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
