The next edition of Madrid Games Week, scheduled for October, has been canceled by AEVI and IFEMA due to the disadvantages of the coronavirus.
IFEMA and the Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI) have confirmed on their website and social networks that this year we have run out of Madrid Games Week. The fair, a regular event in the sector that received more than 139,200 visitors in its latest edition, was scheduled for October 9, 10, 11 and 12, but the coronavirus, outbreaks and the situation in the capital have led to its cancellation. Its organizers assure that it is a consensual decision that aims to “offer a more favorable meeting environment for companies and visitors.”
Madrid Games Week is an essential platform for a sector that already has a turnover of 1,479 million euros in Spain. “It is the great meeting of our country for the video game industry,” can be read on the IFEMA page. “Where professionals and amateurs meet each year with the latest news from the world of electronics.” Although painful, the decision does not seem to put the 2021 edition at risk, which we are already encouraged to expect from the official Twitter account:

Delays due to coronavirus
Of course, Madrid Games Week 2020 is not the only event canceled or postponed due to the pandemic. The last one was the Star Wars Celebration 2020, which each year gathers thousands of fans and celebrates all kinds of activities and panels related to the George Lucas universe. For its part, the Summer Games Done Quick 2020, where the best speedrunners on the planet go to reinvent the most famous titles in the sector, has announced that this year’s edition will be held in August, but online. The same goes for the Pokémon GO Fest 2020, the Gamescom 2020 and the Tokyo Game Fest 2020, which can only be enjoyed in digital format.
