Death Stranding causes suspicion in Japan for the cameo of a former Famitsu chief

Death Stranding causes suspicion in Japan for the cameo of a former Famitsu chief

The Japanese publication, which always performs four analyzes of the same game, has been awarded 40 of 40 in the magazine.

Death Stranding is Hideo Kojima's own project to the last consequences. Therefore, the Japanese creative has surrounded himself with his trusted people and has incorporated them into the game. Among the celebrities who are present are his friends, such as Sam Lake, Geoff, Keighley, Conan O'Brien or director Edgar Wright. Hirokazu Hamamura and Necky the Fox also appear, two names that have generated some debate in the country of the rising sun.

This is because Hamamura is the former editor-in-chief of Famitsu, while Necky the Fox acts as a pet in the magazine. The controversy arises because the publication has awarded a 40/40 to Death Stranding, a score that is not usually given very regularly. Some readers have raised their voices to point out a conflict of interest, since in the game Hamamura, who plays his fictitious son, tells Sam that he will enter the "hall of fame" for his Reviews with high marks.

As Eurogamer points out, throughout its 30-year history, only 26 games have achieved the highest score in Famitsu. Titles like The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Nintendogs have achieved that curious achievement. In the case of Kojima games, four of his video games have earned that note in Famitsu's judgment: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Death Stranding .

Kojima thinks that polarization is because his game is "something new"

The criticisms of Death Stranding have been varied, but Hideo Kojima has an explanation for it. "This happens when you try to do something new, both in movies and in video games," he said in an interview with PlayStation Access. The developer is aware that the game concept does not resemble other products. In addition, in the North American market there have been more negative reviews. In this case, Kojima recalls that in the United States they are very fond of first-person shooters, a genre different from their production.

Death Stranding is now available on PS4. It will be released on PC in early summer by 505 Games, although it can already be booked at Epic Games Store and Steam.
