Mark Wahlberg, in talks to embody Sully in the Uncharted movie

The interpreter and Sony Pictures are about to close the deal for the actor to join the production based on the Naughty Dog saga.

Moving Uncharted to the cinema is being a road full of thorns, but production begins to find its way and will be released in late 2020. Tom Holland is already confirmed as Nathan Drake in the film adaptation of the franchise created by Naughty Dog. The next character to be revealed will be Victor "Sully" Sullivan, an old video game acquaintance. If the negotiations crystallize, Mark Wahlberg will embody the character, as Variety advances exclusively.

Sullivan, who in the stories told in video games plays a fatherly role with Nate, is also his mentor and the person who makes him interested in the mysteries and treasures that the world has hidden since ancient times. Paradoxically, Wahlberg was the actor chosen to play Nathan Drake when David O. Russel sat in the director's chair. According to Variety, the actor wanted to return to production since Sony Pictures decided to tell an original story within the Uncharted universe.

Team confirmed

Travis Knight (Blumblebee) was hired as director of the film a few months ago, while Rafe Judkins works on the script alongside Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce the film for Atlas Entertainment, while Avi and Ari Arad will do the same for Arad Productions.

It is not the first videogame-based movie in which Mark Wahlberg participates. The actor played Max Payne in the movie that bears the same name. He won the Golden Globe and the Oscar for his performance in Lone Survivor (2013).

Uncharted, meanwhile, began as a trilogy directed by Amy Hennig, now out of Naughty Dog. The fourth and final major installment so far is Uncharted 4: The Thief's End, although the studio published an independent game later, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. At the moment, it is unknown if there will be new chapters of the saga starring other characters, since Nathan Drake's arc closed with the fourth chapter.

Naughty Dog is finalizing The Last of Us Part 2, which will go on sale next May 29 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
