The redesign of Sonic in the movie triggers his budget

The new aspect of the mascot of Sega in his own cinematographic adaptation arouses the interest of the public; but how much has it cost?

Sonic, the popular Sega mascot, recently presented a new trailer for his next movie, a new preview that also offered us his new look after announcing his redesign in response to the initial bad reception. And for many, the Sonic of the first trailer did not conform at all to what fans expected from his film debut. Now, with a new appearance more in line with the Sonic that we all know, it has transcended the extra budget that Paramount has had to contribute to the production with the aim of satisfying the general public, which would be around 35 million dollars, according to the CBR media through the calculations provided by Social Film.

The new Sonic enhances the likes of fans

Thus, one of the main consequences of this extra work by the producer of the film has been a great acceptance by the fans, totally opposed to the generalized reaction with the original Sonic. So much so, that the original trailer received 225,000 dislikes and 146,000 likes in its first 24 hours; With the new trailer, 672,000 likes have been registered against almost 5,000 dislikes in just one day.

On the other hand, it is estimated that the investment of Paramount alone for this second trailer is 2.15 million dollars, while the redesign of Sonic for the entire film has cost, as we say, about 35 million dollars. And it is that the budget for the original Sonic was between 18 and 31 million, placing the total budget of the film before the redesign of its protagonist at about 90 million dollars.

Sonic: The film will be released in theaters on February 14, 2020 with Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, along with James Marsden, Neal McDonald, Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally and Natasha Rothwell.
