Xbox Play Anywhere aims to be cross-gen with Project Scarlett

Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, reaffirms that the goal is for all first-party games to be crossgen.

The new generation is emerging on the horizon, although there is still a whole year for both Project Scarlett and PlayStation 5 to see the light in stores. Microsoft's strategy, which turned completely after the initial crash of Xbox One, focused on unifying the console and the PC under the Windows 10 umbrella. Xbox Play Anywhere allows access to the two versions when buying a digital game. Will it apply to Xbox Scarlett? Phil Spencer, head of the division, said in an interview with Stevivor that this is his "objective."

"Our goal for the first party games is for your titles to be cross-geny and for your achievements to be transferred efficiently along with the saved games," says the manager. Spencer regrets that they did not do it this way with the transition from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. “We talked about how important digital was going to be in that generation, and yet we did not transfer the digital purchases you made from 360 to Xbox One. I've always thought that was a mistake, ”he says.

Looking for new talents

After the X019, the most important event of Microsoft focused on video games, Phil Spencer himself said that they had not finished with the purchase of studios. For more than a year, Redmond's have been reinforcing Xbox Game Studios with teams of extensive experience. Companies such as Obsidian Entertainmnet, inXile, Ninja Theory or Obsidian Entertainment have joined the company to develop their projects.

With Xbox Game Pass, Project Scarlett and the PC on the horizon, the manager believes that Asia can be an opportunity, since the company does not have any studies in Asian lands. In fact, Spencer recalled the importance of geographic diversity, as they currently have studies in several countries.
