The creators of Diablo 2 believe that performing a remaster would be "very complicated"

Blizzard Entertainmnet lost all assets by mistake and saw the need to use developer versions to complete the development.

David Brevik and brothers Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer left Blizzard Entertainment years ago, but all three are the original creators of the Diablo saga. The developers, who believe that the company has changed a lot over the years, argue that it is very difficult for the study to address the return of Diablo 2 by way of remastering. The reason? The loss of resources. As they comment, almost all the materials of the video game were destroyed by mistake during development.

This has been stressed in an interview with Gamespot, where the Schaefer brothers have revealed that all the backup of the source code and assets were lost in a matter of hours: “Not only our code, all assets. Irrevocably, corrupted without remedy, ”adds Max Schaefer. It is also confirmed by Erich Schaefer: “There is nothing left. We should have a backup but we failed. We spend a day or two in panic. ”

However, the study was able to reconstruct much of the code and resources thanks to the versions that developers took home to play. However, the source code and assets were lost, which means that Blizzard will have to start almost from scratch if he wants to design a remastering of Diablo's second installment.

"I went home, I dumped the entire hard drive or whatever we had at that time," recalls Erich Schaefer. “I spent several days rebuilding it and it worked fine in the end, except for losing everything. We run out of a lot of resources, art assets. It would be very difficult for Blizzard to do a remastering of Diablo 2 ”, rivets.

Although Diablo 2 is not on the horizon, the one that is emerging is the new installment of the saga. Announced during BlizzCon 2019, Diablo 4 will hit the market for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on a date yet to be determined.
