Google Stadia users complain that Chromecast Ultra gets too hot

The device, indispensable for playing on television, is included in the Founder's Edition and in the Premiere Edition.

Google Stadia is already a reality in Spain. The new platform of the technology giant has started, not without experiencing the odd problem. The service does not yet have all its features and does not fulfill the promises made regarding resolution and framerate, at least in video games such as Red Dead Redemption 2. However, users also complain that Chromecast Ultra, the necessary device to play Stadia on television – an application for Smart TV has not yet been published – it gets too hot, to the point of turning off depending on what cases.

A Reddit thread has given free rein to player comments. The theme, opened by the user armadeon7479, begins like this: “I was in the middle of a Destiny 2 fight when suddenly, my Chromecast has died and lost connection to the network. I went to disconnect it from the current and it was very hot. Has anyone experienced any overheating problem with the new Chromecast Ultras that come in the Founder's Edition? ”He asks. It also highlights that it is worrying that this happens, especially with the service games.

Google responds: there is no generalized overheating

The American company has responded to the question by denying that there is a problem with the hardware. "We can confirm that there is no overheating problem with Chromecast Ultra," they say. "During normal use (such as watching kitty videos on YouTube), the surface of the device may feel hot to the touch, but it is working as designed." According to Google, "the team has conducted intensive tests with hardware, services and games"; They conclude that they have not observed "shutdown problems due to overheating."

However, another user responds to the Google message: "Mine has overheated and turned off twice." Acceptable Mongoose ensures that yours gets very hot while playing, while ultv336 has ensured that he has not been able to play more than 20 minutes. "Now, it doesn't even connect to my home account."

Other foreros point out that Chromecast heating is quite common in devices of this type: “Chromecast in general has always had overheating problems when used for extended periods. I'm not sure if they will fix it soon with new firmware or similar updates, ”says Decapitat3D.

Google Stadia was released in November in several countries, including Spain. It is not a service like Xbox Game Pass, since those who subscribe to Stadia Pro do not have access to a catalog of exclusive games, but have some advantages. The business model works more like a Steam-style digital store or Epic Games Store.
